Estimate the Social Security and Medicare tax side of 2025 self-employment income. This is an educational estimate, not a filing result.

IRS 2025 SE tax
Choose input method
Net self-employment profit $0.00
Income subject to self-employment tax $0.00

Educational estimate only.

Social Security portion $0.00

$0.00 taxed at 12.4%, limited by the shared 2025 wage base.

Medicare portion $0.00

$0.00 taxed at 2.9%; this base portion is not capped by the Social Security wage base.

Total estimated base self-employment tax $0.00

$0.00 of the $176,100 Social Security wage base is treated as already used by W-2 Box 3 plus Box 7 amounts.

Educational estimate: This tool estimates base self-employment tax for tax year 2025 only. It does not estimate federal income tax, state tax, penalties, credits, or final tax owed.

Source scope: Uses IRS Schedule SE 2025 rules registered as SRC-011 and SRC-012: 92.35% net earnings factor, 12.4% Social Security rate, 2.9% Medicare rate, and $176,100 Social Security wage base. W-2 Box 3 Social Security wages plus Box 7 Social Security tips reduce the remaining Social Security wage base available to self-employment earnings.

Additional Medicare Tax: IRS Topic 560 describes a separate 0.9% Additional Medicare Tax that may apply above filing-status thresholds. This first calculator version flags it as outside the base estimate and does not add it to the total.
